Yale University

Strength and Conditioning

Case Study:

Yale University conducted a full market research initiative to source a platform that would allow the strength program to go paperless and collect all performance data in-season and offseason. Additionally, Yale Athletics wanted to document all programming in centralized place for organizational purposes. Lastly, Yale's staff consists of 10+ full-time coaches and many interns; the platform employed would need to allow for flexibility and capability in programming, segmentation and uniformity (exercise naming convention).

Yale decided to go with TeamBuildr for their entire athletic program and has been a customer for over 2 years now.

Tom Newman led the implementation of TeamBuildr and oversaw the creation of Yale's exercises database which includes tagged exercises and attached videos which is shared by the entire strength staff creating uniformity in exercise naming and instruction.

Yale Strength also saves their programming into "phases" and templates. When a new season comes around or a new class comes in, Yale can simply "load" a template onto a calendar, make modifications and have a training phase start immediately without pen and paper.

In the weight room, Yale utilizes the Weight Room View module which uses a tablet app mounted to the weight racks. Multiple athletes can receive their programming via the app and enter their data back in. The app will take "working sets" and formulate a new 1RM based on the coach's preferred settings.

Coach Newman estimates Yale saves nearly 5 hours per week programming and thousands of sheets of paper. Additionally, Yale has more data on their athletes now than ever before. Segmenting the football team into development groups (tier system) is easier than ever and visually organized in TeamBuildr.

We looked at every platform on the market and we arrived at TeamBuildr based on their flexibility and capability for our method of programming. The price enables us to train 700 athletes and 12+ coaches & interns without blowing up our budget.
